On Saturday night [8 March], investigators from the Security Industry Authority joined the Police Service Northern Ireland to conduct checks on security in County Down.
The purpose of the operation was to ensure that door supervisors working in licensed premises were working legally by holding an SIA licence.
During the operation 11 door supervisors were checked across five venues including pubs and clubs.
In Warrenpoint, two door supervisors were found working without an SIA licence. One of the individuals was also the security manager, who did not have the correct SIA licence required for the role.
It is a legal requirement for individuals working as door supervisors, and those who deploy them, to be SIA licensed. Enquiries are being taken forward by the PSNI and the SIA.
SIA Head of Investigation Sharon Roberts said:
“The SIA is committed to working closely with the PSNI to ensure all those working in the night time economy are doing so legally, by holding an SIA licence.
“We take illegal activity seriously and we will continue to take a robust approach where offending is found.”
